Bridgewater Centre to open autumn 2007

Published:  10 November, 2006

The new Bridgewater Centre in Arklow, Co Wicklow, now under construction at a cost of E130m, is due to open in autumn 2007.

Owner North Quay Developments says that it will include retail, commercial, residential, leisure and office elements. The centre, which is on a site of just over 5ha, will have nearly 40,000 sq m of space and will be the first shopping centre scheme of its kind in the area.

Dunnes Stores will be the anchor tenant and the centre will feature an additional 35 retailers, as well as four restaurants and a food court with six outlets and parking for 1,000 cars.

Michael Allen of North Quay Developments said that the Arklow area had been seriously lacking such a retail and leisure development, forcing people to travel long distances to other centres. However, in the town of Gorey, Co Wexford, less than 20 km south-west of Arklow, Dunnes Stores has been signed up for the planned Gorey Town Centre.
