The £900m regeneration of the town centre of Basildon in Essex is to be thrown open to the private sector. The council is to seek a private sector partner to implement its development strategy which could see 525,000 of new retail and leisure space developed alongside 600,000 sq ft of commercial space and 3,650 new homes.
Councillor Stephen Horgan, cabinet member for development and regeneration, said: “The procurement of a strategic development partner is a major step in taking forward the regeneration of the district. It demonstrates to the development industry the commitment to succeed and invites them to come up with the best solutions for Basildon.”
A prior information notice, inviting expressions of interest, is to be published in the Officeial Journal of the European Union before Christmas. As well as appointing a development partner, the council will be looking to recruit specialist advisors and a project director.
