Dacorum Borough Council has chosen Thornfield Properties as its preferred developer for Waterhouse Square, a £350m retail-led regeneration scheme in Hemel Hempstead town centre. The urban regeneration specialist was chosen from a shortlist that included St Modwen, Castlemore, Stanhope, Lend Lease and Crest Nicholson.
Plans submitted by Thornfield for Waterhouse Square include 200,000 sq ft of retail space, a new full-size supermarket, over 1,000 new homes and apartments, of which approximately 350 will be affordable, offices, restaurants and a new state-of-the-art performance venue.
Thornfield chief executive Jason Marcus said: “We are very pleased to have been chosen as the preferred developer for this prestigious and ambitious project. The development will significantly improve the town’s retail and leisure offer, as well as providing much needed new and affordable housing for local people.
