River Island has completed the acquisition of a further five stores as part of its nationwide expansion. New sites have been secured in Staines, High Wycombe, Plymouth, Hastings and Walton-on-Thames. At the same time the fashion retailer has committed to a relocation in Bristol and is close to commitment for stores in Exeter and Carmarthen which are under construction.
At Drake Circus in Plymouth River Island has taken 12,000 sq ft to relocate from its New George Street store. The South West has become a focus for the retailer's expansion plans and it is also relocating to larger stores in Cabot Circus, Bristol and Princesshay, Exeter.
Churston Heard advises River Island on its acquisitions in the South West and Eastern Home Counties, and Tony Edwards, head of South & West retail said: "River Island is one of the UK's most successful privately owned companies, with a unique appeal for both the shopping public and landlords. The success and appeal of the River Island brand makes it a very attractive proposition to investors as a key occupier in both high street and shopping centre locations."
