Land Sec in double deal with John Lewis

Published:  03 November, 2010

Land Securities has signed John Lewis to open two new ‘at home’ stores in Exeter and Chester.

Land Securities is to deliver two more ‘at home’ stores for John Lewis, as the retailer looks to roll out its specialist homewares format. And for the first time the format is being taken into a town centre location.

In Exeter, John Lewis will occupy 1/11 Sidwell Street which has been vacant since Land Securities’ Princesshay shopping centre opened in 2007. The store will cover 67,000 sq ft over five floors

And in Chester, the new John Lewis at home will comprise 60,000 sq ft  over two floors at Land Securities’ Greyhound Retail Park in Sealand Road. It will be the first John Lewis at home branch in the north of England.

Land Securities managing director for retail, Richard Akers, said: "We are pleased to build on the success of John Lewis at home in Poole, which opened last year. It has been a real success for the retail park bringing more customers and boosting the trade of the other retailers. Getting these new stores underway has been a team effort with John Lewis and when they open they will significantly enhance the retail offer and create new jobs."

Andy Street, managing director, John Lewis, said: “We are pleased to be opening our next two John Lewis at home shops with Land Securities at Greyhound Retail Park, Chester and Exeter City Centre. These shops are our fifth and sixth ‘at home’ shops and we look forward to working closely with Land Securities to enhance the shopping offer in both cities. Our new shops will create almost 400 jobs for the regions and provide shoppers with easier access to a John Lewis”
