West Orchards shopping centre in Coventry celebrated its anniversary in style with a host of X factor stars.
Former finalists of the ITV talent show Stacey Solomon, Katie Waissel and girl band Belle Amie performed an intimate show to competition winners on Easter Sunday to mark two decades since its opening.
A special stage was constructed on the shopping centre’s foodcourt, facing into the atrium, to allow the lucky 200 to watch the performances from the balconies opposite after a champagne reception and buffet
Centre manager Andy Talbot, said: “It was a really good event and we got some fantastic feedback from both our customers, through nice emails and comments on our Facebook page, and the acts that performed.
“The idea was that we wanted to be able to reward our regular visitors and give them something very special that they would remember for years to come.
“We decided to ask people to ‘Get Connected’ on our website and sign up to our mailing list so that we could keep in touch and build a relationship with them.
“We then chose 100 people at random from the thousands who did so and each winner was allowed to bring a guest.”
The £50m complex opened for business on April 23 1991 after three years of construction.
At the time of opening the 200,000 sq ft centre, anchored by Debenhams, included 35 stores and ten food outlets.
