European shop staff are lagging behind north America when it comes to some aspects of greeting customers, a survey has shown.

North Americans were best at giving customers a smile (92 per cent), with those in Asia Pacific the worst at 65 per cent, said the International Mystery Shopping Alliance.

Eighty-two per cent of customers in Europe and North America received a greeting, while Asia/Pacific was the worst with 76 per cent.

But less than 50 per cent of staff across the globe suggested add-on sales to customers, with the best region being Asia/Pacific (49 per cent) and Europe trailing with 40 per cent.
