Colney Fields to become one of Hertfordshire’s biggest retail destinations

Ramheath Properties, advised by Indigo Planning, has been given the go ahead for a 90,000-sq ft extension to Colney Fields shopping park in St Albans, set to make it one of the largest shopping parks serving north London and the northern Home Counties.

The extension has an open A1 (non-food) consent and is being marketed to major retail brands, many of which will be new to the area.

Originally developed with a Sainsbury’s SavaCentre in the late 1980s, Colney Fields is now anchored by Sainsbury’s and Marks & Spencer, with other tenants including Next, Boots, Monsoon, and New Look, with a Starbucks concession.

Stephen Rose, associate director at Indigo Planning said: “Despite objections from managers of other schemes, we were able to argue a robust case for the extension which offers shoppers more choice with new retailers. The development will also bring 150 new jobs to the area.”

Work on site is expected to begin in late 2015 with the stores opening in early 2016.
