TK Maxx to anchor Mall Walthamstow

Published:  04 November, 2014

TK Maxx has taken a 26,000 sq ft anchor store and Sports Direct has agreed to take a new 9,000 sq ft unit at the Mall Walthamstow, which is undergoing refurbishment.

The news follows the appointment of Stanton Construction which secured a £2.3m contract to carry out the shopping centre’s refurbishment.

Discount designer brand TK Maxx has agreed to take space over two floors, whilst Sports Direct’s new store will see the amalgamation and extension of two vacant units.

Surrey-based Stanton Construction will complete the refurbishment of The Mall next year. The work will include upgrades to shop fronts, modern flooring and lighting as well as a feature staircase, which will be placed in the Central Square. In addition, a bespoke ceiling feature will run through the shopping centre, tempering sunlight and providing a backdrop onto which rays will be projected at night.

Mark Bourgeois, executive director for Capital & Regional, said: “Walthamstow’s status as a hot property spot, the upturn of the market and the evolving customer demographic means it is the perfect time to develop The Mall.

“This significant deal with TK Maxx and the refurbishment is the exciting first part of a bigger master plan for Walthamstow which we are keen to develop with the Local Authority. We are actively looking at how we can attract new retailers, drive rental growth and provide a valuable retail and leisure experience.”

The refurbishment of The Mall Walthamstow has been designed by conceptual architects, Silver & Co. and is being implemented by ESA.
