TK Maxx and B&M Bargains to anchor 45,000-sq ft extension

Belfast Office Properties has announced plans for a major reconfiguration of the Ards shopping centre in Newtownards, Northern Ireland led by two new anchor retail lettings. The £7m project will see the creation of 45,000 sq ft of new space split into three anchor retail units and a new restaurant/cafe.

The first confirmed anchor tenant is TK Maxx which will be taking 23,000 sq ft while variety retailer B&M Bargains has signed for a 10,000-sq ft unit. Both stores are due to open in September. And Belfast Office Properties said talks are in advanced stages with a leading café brand and another national anchor retailer to take the two remaining units.

At the same time JD Sports is to open its first store in Newtownards with a 4,400-sq ft unit at the centre; jeweller Warren James has taken a 1,190-sq ft store and Argento has doubled its presence to 930 sq f.

Ards Shopping centre currently welcomes in excess of 100,000 visitors each week and will celebrate its 40th anniversary next month.

Paul Devlin of Belfast Office Properties said: “The redevelopment and our significant investment is a direct response to the demand for Ards shopping centre from major UK brands.”
