The scheme – comprising 58 shops and restaurants and anchored by M&S - marked the occasion with a giant cake and birthday card and by rewarding one shopper with a £1,000 shopping spree.
Since opening on 23 May 2013, Whiteley has welcomed 4.7 million shoppers and secured a raft of new retail and leisure operators including Monsoon, Joules, Phase Eight, YO! Sushi and Wagamama.
The scheme also won in the New Development Medium Centre category at the ICSC European Shopping Centre Awards and was highly commended in the New Centre category at the BCSC Gold Awards and the Destination of the Year category at the Oracle Retail Week Awards.

Looking forward, work has started on an £18m leisure extension which will open in summer 2015. The second phase will deliver a nine-screen Cineworld cinema and 30,000 sq ft of additional restaurant and leisure space including Five Guys, Nando’s, PizzaExpress and Coast to Coast. The extension is 75 per cent let with two units still available.
