Capital & Regional announces its recycling stats for World Environment Day

Shopping centre owner Capital & Regional marked World Environment Day by announcing the company recycled 85 per cent of waste across its portfolio in 2016, a 10 per cent increase year-on-year.  The company dealt with 4500 tonnes of waste in the calendar year and reused 4250 tonnes.

Capital & Regional also reported a 7 per cent decrease in electricity usage, and almost two per cent decrease in gas usage across its portfolio of shopping centres. The company has also introduced a number of new features which will deliver additional energy efficiencies in the coming year, including LED lighting in car parks and improved heating and ventilation systems.

Sara Jones, operations director at Capital & Regional, said: “World Environment Day is a reminder to all of us in the built environment sector that we are obligated to minimise the impact of our properties on the environment. We are very proud to achieve a high level of recycling and energy efficiency in 2016, which not only delivers costs savings and value to our retailers, but also has a positive effect on shoppers and the wider communities in which we operate.”
